Meet Our Team

The Munro’s

Colin & Rhona started Munro’s Nurseries in 2001.  They met at Horticultural College the early 70’s and haven’t stopped growing since. Colin has a life time of horticultural knowledge and along with Rhona to back him up, they have helped many green fingers on The Black Isle.

The Kids

Sandy and Heidi quickly joined the team as the family business grew.  Sandy has a hand in all your gardening essentials.  Heidi’s skills lie in gift & Christmas buying (she sleeps, eats and breath Christmas actually!) With her biggest passion being display.

Susie Main - Plant area Manager and Director

Susie is as good as a Munro. She has been with us pretty much from day one training along side Colin in the plant area and completing her degree in horticulture. There’s not much she doesn’t know about plants.

Julie Duff - Assistant Plant Area Manager

Julie has a horticultural background and is also a trained hairdresser….very handy when it come to pruning time.  Julie is extremely nifty and runs our wreath making and hanging basket workshops and is always working on new ideas.

Craig Woods - Assistant Plant Area Manager

Craig has come up from deep down south where he managed a garden centre in Reading.  Along with assisting our customers with nearly 40 years of horticulture knowledge he looks after our indoor plant area and is in charge of planting our hanging baskets and pots.

Lynn Mackay - Shop Manager

Lynn comes from a retail background and brings a wealth of retail knowledge with her.  You’ll find her in the shop, dealing with orders, deliveries, customers and keeping the shop team in order.

Ali Harper - Assistant Shop Manager

Ali has over 20 years of retail experience and visual merchandising is her specialty. She is hugely passionate about making the shop beautiful….and it shows!  Also, along with Heidi, is ridiculously passionate about Christmas!

Amber Nobel- Coffee Shop Manager

Amber is bursting with enthusiasm and a foodie through and through.  Trained by none other that Albert Roux at Inverlochy Castle she brings an amazing food knowledge and energy to the team.

Timeline

History Of Munro’s Nurseries

JULY 2001
Colin & Rhona Munro bought the site at Bogallan in July 2001. It had been a forestry nursery and a tomato nursery prior to Munro’s Nurseries. It had laid derelict for a few years so it took a lot of effort to get it ready to open.
October 2001
3 months of blood, sweat and tears covering the existing tunnel frames and building a shop with in one of the frames.
OCTOBER 2001
We opened for business on 10th October 2001.
JULY 2006
It became apparent very quickly Munro’s needed a purpose-built shop. So in July 2006 we took down the top tunnels and make shift shop to start the new building. Bitter sweet remembering the huge effort required to get them up and running.

20th OCTOBER 2006
With the usual big project problems, we slightly over ran on the build time but in October 2006 we opened our brand new shop.

MAY 2010
There was one thing missing and our customers reminded us every day!! A coffee shop! So in 2010 in what was our stock room, we opened our coffee shop.
DECEMBER 2014
Black Isler’s take their coffee and cake seriously! We all knew the coffee shop was too small so in December 2014 we extended the coffee shop to house more cake!
Today
…and that is where we stand today. We started with 5 acres of weeds and old tunnel frames and with passion, determination, foresight and lots of hard work, we couldn’t be prouder of what we have become today! What’s next for Munro’s…watch this space!
